EUGENE – According to the police officials, the car was parked outside the agent’s Lane County home. Surveillance footage caught the early morning car break-in on Jan. 11 and the suspect’s multiple trips to and from the agent’s car to a personal car.
His name is Michael Stuart Fancher, 29-year-old, a convicted felon. Several weeks later, investigators working undercover contacted Fancher and arranged to buy the stolen rifle from him in exchange for cash and two pistols.
The undercover agents met with Fancher, where he shared that he had stolen the rifle and that it belonged to law enforcement. The undercover officer gave Fancher $3,000 and two pistols in exchange for the rifle.
Fancher was found with a backpack containing the cash and two pistols, as well as another loaded pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition. Police also searched a Subaru belonging to Fancher and seized about a half-pound of methamphetamine and recovered the FBI agent’s stolen ballistic vest and body armor.
