After spotting a stolen vehicle Tuesday, officers with the Eugene Police Department managed to recover a second stolen vehicle during the same incident.
Just after noon on Tuesday (Nov. 10), Eugene Police officers were near Bethel Drive and Morse Street looking for a 1984 Toyota Tercel that had been reported stolen.
One officer spotted a Tercel of the same make and model, but the vehicle color and year were different, and the plates didn’t match.
However, it had some unique stickers on it that had been reported on the stolen Tercel.
A man, later identified as Ryan Stephan Halberg, 33, of Eugene, emerged from the compound and walked to the corner of Bethel Drive.
Halberg looked up and down the roadway, spotted a patrol vehicle and retreated back inside the compound.
After several moments of no activity, officers approached the Tercel.
During an investigation, they gained information that Halberg had been in possession of the vehicle.
They found Halberg hiding inside an outhouse several feet away and took him into custody.
He was transported to the Lane County Jail for lodging on charges of Unauthorized Use Vehicle and Theft in the Second Degree.
While at the location, officers also located another reported stolen vehicle, a 1987 Toyota Tercel, which was returned to the owner.
