Oregon Ducks Report 5 NCAA Secondary Violations In 2019-20

Oregon baseball committed two of the athletic department’s five self-reported NCAA secondary violations in 2019-20, with the total two fewer than a year ago.

A staff-wide violation was reported for players attending a baseball camp being permitted to wear UO team jerseys during the camp.

Baseball director of operations Jamie Walton was cited for a violation involving a player who was not yet certified being provided bus travel expenses to an away game.

Volleyball coach Matt Ulmer accidentally cc’d a recruit when he forwarded her email to his staff.

Beach volleyball assistant coach Janice Harrer was reported for an unofficial recruiting visit during a dead period.

Men’s golf assistant coach Brad Lanning responded to a high school sophomore’s email, which is too early to be in contact with a recruit.

The document the University of Oregon released to The Oregonian/OregonLive in response to a public records request doesn’t specify the penalties to each coach involved, with all five violations still listed with the status of “submitted” as opposed to “closed.”

Typically, recruiting-related NCAA secondary violations require a coaching staff member or school to forgo contact with the specific recruit involved or from all on- or off-campus recruiting for a set period of time.
